YEAR 11 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT AND VCAL MARKET STALLS

After many weeks of remote learning, where Mrs Jodie Birnie and I turned our Year 11 Business Management course upside down and covered all of the theory behind running a small business, we were able to reward the students with the ability to run their business stalls.

In order to run a stall the students were required to complete a business plan, register their business name, fill in a partnership agreement, prepare a cost analysis for their inputs and work out a sale price for their goods, undertake market research to determine how any people would buy their products, what price they were prepared to pay and much more.

The students also had to prepare a risk assessment that covered all of the current COVID-19 conditions, and then we had to obtain approval from College Executive, and the OH&S committee.  These two steps are not usual for the students, but it was a great learning experience for them in terms of what our current small business owners are having to do in order to continue trading.

Thursday June 25 arrived, and it was a beautiful sunny day. We had some stalls operating at recess, and a rush of students and staff supported the stall holders. Lunch time came quickly, and with the assistance of the music department, we had some great tunes, student dancing and a real carnival atmosphere in place. This contributed to the wonderful food options our students had chosen. All the college seemed to be supporting the stalls and celebrating the end of term and some sense of normality.

I would like to thank every staff member who assisted in running the stalls and every student who supported the Year 11 students.  It was a great day.
