Assistant Principal News

I am pleased to say that Year 12 students have made a positive start to their HSC Trial Exams. Students have left exams generally feeling happy with their performance, time management and level of understanding. This clearly demonstrates the capacity and confidence of our students and highlights the support and explicit teaching from our staff in preparing students for their examinations. The students also receive continued support from their Pastoral Leader Mrs Star who has been with the students to calm nerves and offer guidance before and after the exams.

While students finish their exams next week, the journey is not over. Students studying languages have also sat their oral exams for the HSC and many major projects are in the process of being finalised and submitted.

It will be important for Year 12 to refocus after the Trials and Major Projects and reflect meaningfully on their results in order to continue on their journey to HSC Success.

In lieu of our traditional ‘Stress Less’ awareness sessions, the Yr 11 Wellbeing Committee have embraced the COVID restrictions and presented a series of Homeroom based activities to our Year 7 students. These sessions are designed to raise awareness and address any questions regarding Social Media use and how to establish strong  and trusting relationships with peers, families and teachers. These sessions ‘kick start’ a number of college initiatives centered around student emotional, social and mental wellness. Year 8 will commence Smooth Sailing sessions in the coming weeks, while Yr 10 will undertake Burn Bright modules and Year 11 and 12 will engage with Headspace.

These sessions will allow the students time for self reflection while adding to their emotional toolkit to enhance their resilience.

Yours in Learning,

Lora Segrave and Damien Herb
