College Chaplain

Dear friends,

During this time, we did not hear the bell sound at our school, because we know that our year 12 friends are doing the HSC trial. They need us to keep silent so that they can focus on their trial exam. They also need your support and prayers. Let us pray for our friends, Catholics and non-Catholics, that they will do well all their exams with the grace and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Come Holy Spirit,

fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.

And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,

did instruct the hearts of the faithful,

grant that by the same Holy Spirit

we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations,

Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Friends,

It is a chance for us to remember and to make use of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, which many of us had received at the Confirmation.

What are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit?

The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. With these the Holy Spirit “endows” Christians, in other words, he grants them particular powers that go beyond their natural aptitudes and give them the opportunity to become God’s special instruments in the world.

We read in one of Paul’s letter: “To one is given through the spirit the utterance of wisdom, to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues”  (1 Cor 12:8-10)

May the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth intercede for each one of us always and lead us to her Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
