Loddon Mallee Tennis Finals

On Tuesday 3rd May, our Years 7/8 girls and 9/10 boys tennis teams made the journey to Mildura to take on a big challenge. Leaving at 4am made for a very quiet bus trip as everyone was trying to catch up on sleep. Luckily, by the time we got to Mildura, both teams were set for a big day of competition.

The girls team, consisting of Miley, Penny, Shylee and Mia, headed straight into their championship game as they only played one team. The girls made light work out of this match-up winning all six of their sets for the day. A big congratulations to the girls who will now compete in the state competition in November.

The boys team of Jim, Bill, Ayden, Ben and our medical sub, Gabe, were set for a big day on the courts battling two teams for the day. Their first round match-up made a statement that they didn’t travel five hours just to lose. The boys triumphed over Castlemaine Secondary College, four sets to two in the first round, proving that they were the team to beat on the day.

After a short break, the boys were up against the home team, St Joes Mildura. Warm ups showed us that this was going to be a very close match-up. After the doubles, the boys were tied up at 1-1 heading into the singles. Outstanding performances by Bill, Jim and Ben in the singles meant that the boys had solidified themselves for the state finals held later this month. Overall, it made the 10 hour bus trip full of poor music choices, even worse dad jokes and a few riddles and tongue twisters worthwhile. The 3am wake up won’t be missed though!
