Card Making in the Library

The Card Making Workshops in Week 1 were joyful events.  Ms Maree’s glittering packs filled with eye catching paper and shimmering stickers inspired us to make beautiful cards. The Card Making Workshops proved as popular as ever and were a huge hit with students keen to let their Mother or someone precious in their life know how much they care.  Many students chose to create cards to celebrate Ramadan instead which fell around the same time.  Students eager to learn from Ms Maree’s abundant creative talents in card-making and calligraphy applied their new skills to create unique messages.

Star Wars Day – And May the Fourth Be With You!

It was a galactic return to school in Term 2 with the Teen Library Advisors transforming our library and its displays into a galaxy far far away.   Fittingly, on May 4th Princess Leia was on duty for the day.  As an extension on the Star Wars theme, we showcased our exciting Science Fiction collection.  Students participated enthusiastically in the lunchtime quiz organised by Rabiha and Heather.  Winners were Jazz, Ms Trewin and Mr Greaves.

Eid Celebrations

The usual agenda in our Teen Library Advisors was put aside to focus on Eid Celebrations.  Thank you to Rabiha for leading the meeting, organising special bookmarks and food to share with all of the Teen Library Advisors.  It was an opportunity for those of us who don’t know much about Eid to learn.   A huge thank you to Ethrath, Hala and Besnik for sharing reflections about what this momentous holiday means to them and how it’s celebrated in their family.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Website is Now Open

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Dandenong High School is excited to be participating. The VPRC application offers a range of exciting features including:

  • access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
  • a modern user-friendly interface
  • rewarding  students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
  • the option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review

The Challenge is open to all Victorian students in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 2 September 2022.

All Dandenong High school students are registered and can begin the challenge by adding all of the books they have been reading from the start of the year to the VPRC site.  If students are unsure of login details or need any help please come and see the Library staff.

Years 7 and 8 students can also enter a Review Competition.  More information is available here

All students who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.  Best of luck to all!
