Meet Our College Captains

2022

Charlotte Jewell, Arts Captain, Cranbourne Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

“As a leader, I see my role as someone who you can communicate with and share your ideas for the school in The Arts. Someone you can talk about your problems you face at school, a mentor/role model for the younger students”.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

“Being a student at St. Peter’s College has been an amazing experience. Not only have I grown closer to my peers but I've grown closer to my teachers throughout the years. St. Peter’s College is a close community where everyone is able to be friends with one another”.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

“The person I admire the most is Audrey Smith. After years of our friendship, she has always been supportive of my choices and even supported me in going for the role of Arts Captain. I wouldn’t be who I am today without her”.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

“My goal as Arts Captain for 2022 is to bring The Arts back to life. After two years in lockdown, where Arts was difficult to promote at home, being back in the classroom means I can promote fun events, promote the Arts Collective to all students and bring people together by using The Arts”.

“Therefore prepare your minds for action”. 1 Peter 1:13

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

“No matter what career path you choose, no matter what University or TAFE you decide to attend, you must have an open mind to face challenges along the way, preparing yourself for the challenges ahead, “prepare your minds for action”.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would like to say to your fellow students?

“To my fellow students, after the two worst years of our lives, I hope that together in 2022 we can make this year the greatest year yet, as we get to grow together, learn together and appreciate each other”.

Diya Vinod, Arts Captain, Clyde North Campus

What do you see as your role as a leader?

Art is, by definition, one of the most diverse creative outlets in itself. As 2022 Arts Captain it's my job to propose ideas to encourage the visual and mental representation of students' thoughts and ideas. To lead the school into appreciating The Arts in ordinary life and how to become better versions of ourselves through the power of Art and to utilise capabilities to represent the values taught by St. Peter. As Art's Captain, I aim to gain increased attention and to seek more opportunities for the Arts community.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St. Peter's College?

“I like that I can have the opportunity to express myself as a student. The diversity within St. Peter's College community helps individuals express opinions and thoughts. Hearing individuals with similar thoughts helps bring everyone closer, keeping an open mind, while building connections. St. Peter's College opens up opportunities for all students to express themselves in different ways”.

Who is the one person you admire most and why?

“I admire many people for many different reasons because everyone is admirable in their own way and learning to appreciate that is important. But I would say my parents are two of the people I admire the most. My parents have been there for me ever since I can remember, whether it be for guidance, support, advice or just comfort. I admire the hard work my Dad puts in every day at work, starting work before the sun is out and coming home when it's dark to keep our family happy and supported. I admire the lunches my Mum makes, the homemade remedies for when I'm sick and the love she gives me when I'm down. Without a doubt, I believe my parents are the most important and influential people I will ever encounter, they led me to consider that everyone is admirable and that's why I admire them”.

What are your goals as Captain in 2022?

“My goal in 2022 is to make everyone at St. Peter's College feel comfortable with expressing themselves. Whether this is done through Dance, Drama, Speech or Visual Arts, the possibilities are endless, but being a leader who makes everyone comfortable, ensuring that every student who is at St. Peter's College knows they won't be judged and they are welcomed. I also would like to start some Art Projects throughout the school to physically show off the diversity within our school”.

“Therefore prepare your minds for action”. 1 Peter 1:13

How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

"Therefore prepare your minds for action" to me means that when your mind is ready you are prepared to do anything. If your mind is unready, you take little to no action. I will need to be ready for different scenarios and different roles I may be unfamiliar with. Preparing my mind ensures that I am calm and collected when approaching obstacles. I will use this statement to get through the obstacles of being a leader at St. Peter's College”.

In one sentence what is the one thing that you would like to say to your fellow students?

“Be so good, they can’t ignore you”
