Cranbourne Campus News

The New Administration Building

After an agonisingly long wait due to COVID-19 restrictions and hold ups on some building materials, this week the new Administration Building and College Reception became operational. Those who have been with the College for some time would be aware that the Masterplan for updating the Cranbourne Campus resources began with the Florence Williams Building (Arts Precinct), to offer our students state of the art resourcing for creative arts such as, photography, fine arts, media and visual communication and we are seeing these benefits in the creativity of what students are doing in their art lessons. The second area for renovation was the Donnelly Building (where VCAL classes take place). And from this open plan and functional centre, students have been able to experience an increase in the VET course offerings and the ability to influence some amazing project work including the recent Harmony Day and our ANZAC Day ceremonies.

This third stage of a new Reception and Administration facility has the benefit of increasing safety for students moving around the College as vehicle traffic through the campus has ceased. Furthermore, the new facilities serve to support Campus Staff to be even more efficient in our management of school resourcing, looking after student needs and future planning and thus allowing staff to have an even greater positive influence on ensuring optimum learning conditions for your sons and daughters.

ANZAC Day commemorative ceremony

On Thursday we again hosted visitors from the Botanic Ridge Retirement village and decorated returned Services League members for our commemoration of ANZAC Day. This formal ceremony was magnificently organised by Ms Rhiannon Clark, Mr Justin De Goldi and Mr Chris O’Hara as a project for their VCAL class. Having these students engaged in the stories and significance of commemorating this moment in time and the courage and sacrifice made by all of our armed services, is an exceptional learning opportunity from which these students have taken a lot. Furthermore, there were many comments about the reverence and respect that the St. Peter’s College students displayed as they stood and participated in the ceremony. As long as these stories are kept alive in the hearts and minds of our community and our country, we can be sure that the lessons from those who have gone before us will not be lost.

Random Acts of Kindness

Next week the Year 10 Youth Ministry class are launching an initiative in Tutor Group time that they have been working on in class. The project ‘Random acts of Kindness’ is designed to help us to recalibrate in the post Remote Schooling environment and put greater attention on how we can positively influence the experience of others here at school and in the home by the little things we see and the small actions we do. Just as Rust Never Sleeps (reference back to my April Newsletter Article) equally the ripples of random acts of kindness can reverberate all the way through the community - it doesn’t take much but the impact can be priceless.

Communication with school

With the opening of the new Administration building and the imminent installation of automatic gates at the front and back of the College, it is even more important now that parents and students follow the right procedures when it comes to communication with the Office if a parent wishes to collect a young person from school early. There is great efficiency in parents messaging their young people to let them know of the intention to be collected from school, as this can ensure the young person is organised and prepared, however from a legal standpoint and now that we have changed conditions for pick up and drop off, it is really important that parents give Cherie, Leesa or Carol on reception, as much notice as possible including the estimated time of collection and the reason.

This importance of communication extends to contacting teachers or Learning Advisors should you have questions about your young person’s school experience or can share with us any changed circumstances for the young person, that may be useful to Learning Advisors and teachers in their work of ensuring a safe and predictable learning environment for your young person.

Driving Safely around Schools

A prudent reminder at this time, of the importance of how parents and guardians drive, especially around schools.
