11 and 12 Studio Art excursion

Students in VCE Studio Arts across both the Clyde North and Cranbourne Campuses were equally enthralled and uncomfortable viewing the artworks of Australian artist Patricia Piccinini. Her work explores ideas of art and science, highlighting humanity’s relationship to technology and the environment, and it’s potential for manipulation and enhancement through bio-technological intervention, inviting the students to think about what is real and what is not.

Students then had the opportunity to view folios and selected works from this year’s Top Arts exhibition at the NGV, as well as the permanent collection.

Everyone genuinely appreciated the experience and were exemplary in their behaviour throughout the day, gaining invaluable inspiration and insight for their own art making processes.

One of the first buildings on the Cranbourne Campus is the Donnelly Building. It is sometimes, especially in earlier times, referred to as Donnelly House (not to be confused with the current Houses).

It housed the Junior Canteen, the Food Technology Room and adjoining kitchen and several Visual Arts Rooms. The two original science laboratories were also part of the building structure or attached to it. It recent years the building has been renovated. It is now home to the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students and Glowrey House. Coincidentally, Glowrey House celebrates their feast day this week.

The building is named after Mr. Edward (Eddie) Donnelly. He was a local farmer and businessman. He supported the local Fire Brigade and was a trustee of the Cranbourne Cemetery from 1942 until 1979 (according to information on the cemetery gate).

Donnelly was also a member of St. Agatha’s Parish. He supported the parish and the local St. Vincent de Paul. He died in 1979 and bequeathed his farm to St. Agatha’s Parish for the purpose of building a new Church. The church building in Scott Street was funded by this bequest.

Edward Donnelly’s name is seen in many places around Cranbourne: Donnelly Reserve on the South Gippsland Highway, the gates of Cranbourne Cemetery, a plaque on the wall of St. Agatha’s Church and, of course, at St. Peter’s Cranbourne Campus in the name Donnelly House.

Sometimes ordinary people do extraordinary things. We give thanks for the generosity of Mr. Edward Donnelly and his devotion to his community.

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW)

Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is an annual event that highlights the importance of protecting personal information and helps organisations, agencies and the public navigate the privacy landscape.

The OAIC run PAW in conjunction with state and territory privacy regulators and the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities forum.

This year PAW will be held from Monday 2 May to Sunday 8 May. The theme of PAW 2022 is 'Privacy: The foundation of trust'.

Do your privacy practices stack up? When did you last review how apps and platforms are collecting, storing, sharing and protecting your kids data?
