Year 7 Humanities Interview Mel Tricoli

Thank you to Mel Tricoli (father of TC Old Boy Ben Tricoli '17) who went live stream to our Year 7 class on Wednesday and spoke about being an entrepreneur in our local community. Mel with his brother Sam own and manage their family business, Charlies Fresh Food Mart, in Morley. Charlies as it is known by the locals, was started by his mum and dad over 55 years ago and has become iconic in the local community. Mel gave the boys an insight in what it takes to run a successful business and answered several well thought out questions from the class, especially about the challenges of being in business over the last two years. This was a great learning experience for the boys involved.

Year 9s and 10s Italian Cooking

To finish a busy term in Italian, students in Year 9 and 10 did a cooking class in the pavilion. The Year 9s made pasta ai funghi (mushrooms) e tortellini with a basic pastasciutta sauce. The passata used to make the pastasciutta was homemade and brought in by one of the students. The boys prepared and cooked the sauce and then enjoyed sharing a meal together. The Year 10s also made tortellini with a slightly spicy tomato sauce with mushrooms and fresh herbs from prof Knapman’s garden. Italian lessons are as much about culture as they are language and food and cooking is a big part of Italian culture. The students learn that Italian cooking is simple using fresh ingredients to create meals that are buonissimo!

Inaugural Summer Dodgeball Competition

After weeks of fierce competition between our 1st Summer Sport Teams, today shaped up as a battle for the ages when the cricket and rowing teams took to Centenary Park for the final round of the Summer Sport Dodgeball tournament. Following an impressive display of teamwork and grit, it was the cricket team who came out on top and became the TC Champion dodgeballers for 2022!

New and Improved Year 12 Area

As the 2022 school year began, there was a wave of excitement for the new and improved Year 12 Senior Area. This highly anticipated area provides a space where students can relax and share a laugh with their mates. It has recently even become the place for very competitive table tennis matches! The area is a space where the Year 12’s are sure to make a lifetime of memories in their final year of school.

The improvements have blown the students away, with the kitchen being the centre of attention. The addition of microwaves, toasted sandwich makers, a fridge, and a hot water system, have allowed students to heat up and store their food throughout the day. It is the perfect place to have a warm tea and coffee in the cold winter months.

Along with the amazing kitchen, the Year 12 Senior Area has also welcomed comfy beanbags and ottoman seating to lounge around on. This relaxed setting provides the students with an escapism from their busy day. Keeping with the TC Spirit, the Year 12 Senior Area also features blue and green trimming as well as the school crest, demonstrating our strong pride and commitment to Trinity.

Finally, on behalf of the Year 12s, we would like to thank all the teachers and staff, especially Ms Marocchi and Mr Whalan, for embracing our concept and helping bring it to life.

A Look Back at Term 1

When WA braced for the long anticipated COVID-19 surge in February, we as a TC community bravely launched into the start of a new scholastic year, Term 1, 2022.

For some students, Term 1 marked the start of high school or junior school, for others, the start of their final year at Trinity College. As a collective group, and across year levels, it would be safe to say, we all hoped for a good beginning and a relatively ‘normal’ experience.

With masks on, hand sanitiser stocked, and a mighty TC spirit that was ready for anything and everything, we as a school, took the term head on! Who would have thought, that we would have been talking about RATS and PCR tests on a daily, sometimes minute by minute basis? Certainly, not me!

Term 1 was not easy, as it was layered with organisational and health complexities. However, through collective genius and the unshakable commitment by all staff, students and parents, great success was realised all round. Resulting in, a term filled with creative problem solving and new approaches to school life.

It has been great to evidence the tenacity that fellow TC students have applied to their school work and commitments across academic, sport, faith and cultural realms. This is what made the term so rewarding. Well done boys for pushing through and persevering. Attitude and determination makes all the difference.

This last week of term has been busy and full of activities. Well done to the winning 1st Cricket team of the final dodgeball competition and to those who challenged hard. It was exhilarating to watch the summer sport teams battle it out against each other over the past few weeks. Students and teachers have worked solidly right to the end, and now, can look forward to celebrating Easter next week and having a relaxing and energising holiday break.

The winter sport season is already in full swing! Good luck to all teams, look out for one another, and try your best on the sporting field. Looking forward for the commencement of Round 1 of the Winter Season.

Thank you to all who contributed to the Project Compassion Easter appeal – all donations make a difference! Remember to be thankful for the wonderful privileges that we have as a community and to be generous in giving back to others.

I would also like to take the opportunity to express a special thank you to Mr Tucker from all the boys who are past and present Junior School students and wish him well with his new appointment.

Let’s keep praying for peace in Ukraine, world stability, medical breakthroughs with COVID-19 and also for a happy and productive Term 2. There’s no doubt that the year ahead will be full of more memorable experiences and achievements.

Boys, we belong to Trinity, the greatest school of all. Trinity number 1! Keep bleeding the Blue and Green.
