2022 NHS Music Committee

I would like to welcome our inaugural NHS Music Committee members, comprising of Year 10 and 11 students, and lead by our Year 12 Music Captains: Janiru Rathnapriya, Alex Wilson and Jessica Zong.  The committee will be working together to bring our music students back into the spotlight after the past two years of online learning and cancelled concerts! The committee will be the student voice for music this year, so please contact them (via the Music Captains) if you have any suggestions or requests for the music department.

SingFest

On Wednesday 30 March, I had the pleasure of attending SingFest with four Nossal choir students, plus two hundred students from other schools around the region. The day began with some physical and vocal warmups, and then the students got straight into learning some songs. Throughout the four hours of rehearsals, the guest conductor, Adam Przewlocki, was able to teach the choir three pieces in three-part harmony, which were then recorded. This was an amazing feat, and it was an absolute delight to witness this beautiful music-making in person!

Top Class Music

On Monday 21 March, the VCE Music Performance students from Nossal headed into the city to see two Top Class Music concerts at the Melbourne Recital Centre. The concerts comprised of solo and group performers, in both classical and contemporary styles. Some of the highlights included a cello/guitar group, some talented trombonists, a traditionally dressed Scottish Bagpiper and a wonderfully entertaining recorder player (who knew you could play more advanced pieces than Hot Cross Buns on the recorder?!). It was so enriching for our students to be able to see live music in the CBD for the first time since 2020.
