MAGNIFICENT MINERS REST SPORTS STARS SHINE DURING A HUGE WEEK OF COMPETITION!

It has been yet another excellent term for Physical Education at Miners Rest Primary School, concluding with two days of excitement and fun at our annual Athletics Carnival and Ball Sports morning.

After another uncertain start to the year, with many community members isolating due to covid, we were delighted to see so many happy, smiling faces at our Sports Carnival on Tuesday.  A large majority of staff, students, parents and family members were in attendance which further enhanced the atmosphere at Llanberris Reserve on what ended up being a bright, sunny day.  The morning began on a strong note with nearly every student who signed up to run the 800m long distance race arriving at 9am with a guardian to cheer them on.  At 10am the buses arrived with the remaining grade 3-6 athletes eager to start event rotations and looking SPECTACULAR in their house colours wearing tutus, t-shirts, face paint, hair spray, socks, ties and many more accessories in support of their house!

The day ran smoothly thanks to our teachers being so organised with their groups and promptly recording and moving between events.  We were equally impressed with our Ballarat High School helpers who assisted and measured student results at all of our events.  It was such a combined effort by all involved and those who attended and we were so grateful for everyone who assisted on our special day.  At 11am our junior school arrived ready to race, jump and throw their way around their events which included long jump, high jump, sprints, hurdles, bean bag throw and vortex.  There was action everywhere you looked and it was brilliant to see everyone participating, experiencing success and having a wonderful time.

After a long, busy day on Tuesday our students returned to school on Wednesday with just as much enthusiasm and house spirit to compete in Ball Sports Day relays. Our entire school assembled on the tennis courts to continue the fight for crucial house points in our three ball sport events including, tunnel ball, spoke and shuttle relay.  Every student from Foundation to Year Six were placed in age appropriate HOUSE for the three events and they competed to win extra points and ribbons.  Ball Sports day is an excellent way for our students to develop their team work abilities and allows them to collaborate with a range of students their own age.  The cheering was LOUD AND PROUD and every team member tried their absolute best to achieve success for their house and teammates.  We couldn’t be prouder of the way our students performed and behaved over both days!  We think you all deserve a break, a bit of relaxation and possibly some yummy chocolate treats over the holidays!

A special SHOUT OUT and HIGH FIVE goes to staff that provided extra assistance and support throughout the term to make the week run successfully for all involved. Thank you also to Mark Verberne, the Ballarat High School students and our house captains,

Harry, Alicia, Ryder, Karinda, Jackson, Dakodah, Jake and Holly who did a wonderful job.

We would also like to congratulate the age group

‘Sports Champions’ awarded to the students with the highest points scored at the Sports Carnival.  These students showed great sportspersonship, determination and ability when competing in all of the events at the carnival.
