Principal’s Message

Student Learning

Every Plenty Parklands student has now been assessed for their reading level to ascertain what we as teachers need to focus on next to enable students to develop their literacy skills. I have spent this week analysing the results for each student, each class and each cohort of students across the school. The data is very impressive, with many of our children working above the expected level. We are now using the data to group students and for future planning of learning experiences.

City Camp

Our Year 6 students last week spent two nights in Melbourne, experiencing many of the sites around town including the MCG tour, ACMI and the Shrine. We thank our 5 staff, 7 parents and eighty students for their participation and the way our school values were displayed.

Issues in the yard

I have met with a couple of parents recently about situations where they believe that their children have been targeted in the yard. In most cases it has been refreshing to hear that parents understand that there are two sides to every story, appreciate that their own child may have to take some responsibility and in a few cases the parent has brainstormed some possible strategies as a family before getting to me. We have many options to support students at our school. When both parties work together, the chances of success increase.

Lawn Bowls

On Wednesday our Lawn Bowls team represented PPPS at the district sports finals. Our Year 5/6 team won all of their preliminary rounds against each competing school before losing the final by 1 shot to Epping Views PS. Mr Falcone was impressed by both the talent and attitude of our students on the day.

Staffing Changes

Ms Julie Gatt has two weeks to go in her Acting Assistant Principal role at Lalor East PS, then she will return from Term 2 as our e Learning teacher. Mr Anthony Lentini has done a wonderful job covering her this term and we thank him and hope to see him back this year as a CRT.

Pokeman Cards

A small group of students have been bringing along cards from home to play with and show their friends. Some students have not been clear that these swap cards are not to be swapped at school. Please promote with your child that the cards can come to school, but swapping them with peers without adult supervision can cause issues that are difficult for staff to sort out.

Family Fun Night

Family Fun Night (March 30th) is on next week! We hope to see as many families here as possible for this important PPPS community event.
