From the Principal

This week has provided so many different opportunities to showcase the talents of our students. I have always said and will continue to say, my absolute priority as Principal of Langwarrin Park Primary School is to have a very student focused approach to our work. We always need to be asking, 'What is in the best interests of our kids?' Then we must consider what role our teachers, parents and carers play in this.

Some of the highlights this week have included:

1.GRIP STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

On Wednesday, I was fortunate enough to take our Grade 6 School Captains (Grace and Chloe) and SRC Leaders (Sharlah and Cali) to the Melbourne Convention Centre for a student leadership conference. This was a fantastic opportunity for our student leaders to meet with other student leaders from around Victoria. They learnt more about leading others and how to turn an idea into a possible school event. They all walked away from this  experience more inspired to make a bigger difference back at school.

2. THRIVE iCAN CHALLENGE

Yesterday we had a large number of our Grade 6 students complete the 25km iCAN Challenge. They all walked from Ricketts Point to Frankston. The purpose of this challenge was to raise money for the Good Friday Appeal. All our THRIVE schools (Woodlands Primary, Langwarrin Primary and EMC) were also involved and the hype when students crossed the finish line was nothing short of sensational! I would like to thank Mrs McInnes and Mr Hannah for all the work they both did to train our students. I would also like to thank a large group of parents who also walked the 25km with our kids. They did a superb job. Finally, I would like to thank our PFC for organising our food station on the course in Edithvale. Plenty of snacks were on offer for all the walkers.

All of our students demonstrated great resilience and citizenship when completing this challenge and they all contributed to raising over $200,000 dollars for the Good Friday Appeal!

3. YEAR LEVEL EXPOS

It has been fantastic to see so many parents and carers attend our Year Level expos across this week. This has been an effective way to engage and inform our parent community with what their child is learning. It is very important that as a school community we regularly celebrate and showcase the learning for all our students.

Last Week Happenings

We might be heading into the last week of Term 1, however there are lots of things going on around the school:

  • Year 4 expo on Monday and Year 6 expo on Tuesday
  • On Wednesday, we have our House Athletics at Ballam Park for our Grade 3-6 students
  • Our Foundation and Grade 1s have their Easter Bonnet Parade on Thursday

We are heading into the final week of Term 1 and I would like to thank all the amazing work our teachers and support staff have undertaken with our students. My thanks must also extend to our parents and carers of Langy Park. This work has laid the foundation for the best possible start in Term 2.

On the last day of term (Thursday 6th April), please note the school day will finish at 2.30pm.

Take care everyone,

Richard
