Western Division Swimming competition <3

It was a pleasure to represent Suzanne Cory High School at this year's Western division swimming competition. It was such an exciting day, with so many SCHS students jumping in the pool and many of them taking home ribbons! The contribution of our students paid off and, as usual, we have had a large number of students progress to the regional level competition, held in Geelong at the end of term. We are all so proud of the effort that our students showed, but I was especially impressed by our relay teams, who managed to put themselves together at the very last minute, and still did an amazing job! All of our teams absolutely smashed it, and many of them scored themselves a place at regionals!

It was an absolute honour to be one of the oldest students representing our school, it was wonderful to be able to help and learn from some super impressive aspiring swimmers.

The culture of our school is amazing and the support and love for one another is unmatched. Our students showed so much respect at the Western Division competition, and were very well mannered. It was wonderful to see how proud students are to represent our school and how excited we all were for each other's successes! I am so proud of not only our successes in the pool, but the wonderful attitudes the students showed across the day.

Keep it up SCHS! We can’t wait to see you at regionals!

Lions Youth of the Year Program

Year 12 student Aanchal Sharma represents the aspirations of many of our students to truly live big lives. Aanchal recently participated in the first round of the Lions Youth of the Year Program winning three awards: the event Finalist Winner Award, Public Speaking Award and the School Participation award.

Following an application and interview, Aanchal was selected to present a prepared speech and answer a number of impromptu questions from a panel of judges. The judges were amazed at Aanchal’s extracurricular activities, awards and involvement and were equally impressed with her confidence and ability to present well-structured and thoughtful responses to their questions.

This renowned program is run by the Lions Club of Werribee and has a proud history in encouraging and fostering leadership skills in Australian students. By emphasising qualities like contribution to the community and school, public speaking, academic skills, sporting and cultural involvement, Youth if the Year aims to bring forth the next generation of outstanding, inspirational young leaders.

Aanchal now proceeds to Regional finals. Well done, Aanchal.

Dinda Widya Murti - Victorian State Schools Spectacular

Last year I participated in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular as part of the Drumline. It was my first time being part of such a large scale production where students partook in everything backstage(lighting, sound) and onstage (dancing, singing).

Being part of this production gave me the experience of performing in front of twelve thousand people, overall helping me boost my confidence in performing. It also taught me commitment and perseverance when I thought a piece was too difficult to learn in the time span. I spent a lot of time with other musicians backstage and in rehearsals which allowed me to also make new friends who attend other schools but have similar interests.

I had so much fun that I’ve chosen to play in the drumline once again. The applications for this year’s Spectacular Orchestra and Drumline is still open! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and you won’t regret it so register now via the link below.
