2024 International Baccalaureate Webinar
Students will now be able to select the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in 2024 as an alternative to the VCE.
Dear SCHS students and families,
Through semester one, SCHS will provide our school community with access to information regarding the International Baccalaureate (IB). Students and families will have opportunities to understand, why the IB is an excellent senior pathway program option for students. Students will explore the IB program through their SEC classes in week 9 and families are invited to attend a webinar at 7pm on the 29th of March.
During these sessions students and families will hear from a current student who is studying IB, teachers who are on staff at SCHS who have taught and or studied IB themselves.
To register for the live IB Webinar click here. Parents and students in year 9 who are curious to learn more about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme are also welcome to register.
Below are some responses to a couple of questions relating to IB from Ms. Caitlin Roberts who completed the IB program last year. Caitlin is now studying Law at Deakin University which was her first preference.
WHY DID YOU ENJOY IB?
In my opinion, IB allowed me to get a more rounded education. As I had to complete a subject from at least 5 groups, the topics I was covering were out of my comfort zone and allowed me to grow into a better student. Whereas I preferred humanities, English and LOTE subjects, I was also able to exceed my expectations for myself by continuing with science and maths subjects.
As IB has a reputation for being “harder” than VCE (which I don’t believe it is, it’s just different), it often attracts students that want to excel and want to work hard, making classroom situations more enjoyable. When working with other people, you are all trying to get the most out of the task, as opposed to one or a few people being responsible for everything.
IB also allowed me to participate in activities I wouldn’t have otherwise sought out. As I was looking to complete CAS more easily, I engaged with enjoyable activities, such as pottery, sports coaching and candle making; activities I very much enjoyed but didn’t think to do prior to IB and CAS.
HAS IT GOT YOU TO THE TERTIARY PATHWAY YOU WANT TO GO TO?
Yes. Prior to completing IB, I was unaware of what I wanted to do when I reached university. Not only did IB give me a vast array of undergraduate options, it also allowed me to feel comfortable in my choices and reassured in my abilities once I began the process of university.
There are many reasons why the International Baccalaureate may be the perfect fit for your child.
