Bike Education
REMINDER - All students are expected to bring their bikes (avoid scooters) next week on their PE day again. Please make sure bikes and helmets are in good working order before leaving home.
F/1
In the past five weeks, students have learned and developed sus habilidades para correr con equilibrio (run with balance skills) through fun relay races using hurdles and aros (hoops). This skill is fundamental for their physical development as it builds and improves coordination, strength and stamina. They also learned how to participate in a team race involving communication and teamwork. This has helped them strengthen their social interactions with other peers.
In addition, students have improved their dodge skills through fun games such as Pulpo (Octopus) and Mushroom Tiggy. Agility poles and smaller play areas were introduced in relay races and other activities for them to practice footwork and quick change of direction.
Bike Education has finally started this week! We have already learned basic traffic signs, safety tips and basic steps to keep equilibrio (balance) on the bicicleta (bike). They are doing an excellent job and greatly enjoy riding the bicicleta with their friends at school.
2/3
Our students in Grades 2 and 3 have been engaging in many physical activities to refine their running and dodging skills in preparation for the Cross-Country event, which will take place next term in week 2. They have participated in relay races using batons, agility poles and bigger hurdles. They practised their dodging skills through obstacle courses and games like Roca, Puente y Árbol (Rock, bridge and tree). Students have been encouraged to keep building their stamina by keeping active during recess and practise running outside of school. This will help them create a positive experience out of the Cross-Country event.
This week, we have started the Bike Education program. Because some Year 3 students (Darebin Celeste and Kurrum Malva) have not completed the first Bike Ed lesson due to NAPLAN, activities will be modified for next week to ensure they have access to all contents in this learning unit. In addition to some traffic signs and going through the Ride Ready Checklist together, students are improving and refining their riding skills through activities that involve sudden stops, multiple turns and narrow paths. This gives students the chance to feel more confident and consider the option of riding their bikes to school.
4/5/6
Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 have greatly enjoyed an excellent Softball program provided by Softball Australia in the last five weeks. We all learned the reglas del juego (rules of the game), refined and combined habilidades de lanzar y atrapar (throwing and catching abilities) with fundamental skills such as correr y saltar (running and jumping) and developed teamwork skills. In addition, this program has been of significant value for those students who are taking part in the softball team in Interschool Sport Competition. They are having a great opportunity to keep practising everything they learned during PE lessons.
This week, we have started Bike Education. In our first lesson, we stayed in the classroom to create a Ride Safe Checklist to ensure safety before riding. Moreover, we learned how media affect the behaviours and decisions we make through Bike advertising. Next week, we will put into practice riding skills through different outdoor activities that involve traffic signs, space awareness and turning. Please, remind your kids to bring their bikes next week!
