7C Excursion to Quantum Victoria – Escape Room Experience
It’s not every day that you solve puzzles to escape from dinosaurs!
On Thursday 9th March, 7C went to “Quantum Victoria” to participate in a Cyber Security-focused escape room.
We collaborated and found solutions to restore the compromised systems and ensure the safety of the Park “Cretaceous Cove”.
In the role of Cyber Security Experts, we solved challenges involving passwords, ciphers and phishing.
It was very interesting to escape the dinosaurs. We worked in groups of 3 or 4 and attempted to work out the coded password. The codes were entered into a box and stopped the timer, which meant we escaped the room. We rotated through three different workshops and had about 40 minutes per workshop, to work out the code to successfully stop the dinosaurs.
One of our favourite activities was “Password Panic”.
Some teams used strategies to solve puzzles more quickly.
Some groups escaped with only 11 seconds to spare.
In the Ciphering Workshop, we looked for clues and referred to other puzzles to decipher texts and patterns.
Shaun, Roahn and Ben won the cypher challenge.
When cyphering, you should always use multiple layers.
Whilst the key challenge and phishing were manageable, it took some of us longer than the time limit.
The workshop explored ways people can find your location, just by seeing one of your photos. There are also programs that can tell you about someone’s key, therefore we shouldn’t post photos of keys on social media.
Overall, 7C had a lot of fun.
It was a very engaging and interesting experience.
We would love to thank the teachers that helped organise this event and came too – Ms Mouzakis, Ms Ryzhikh and Ms Curnow.
We really enjoyed the activities, every single one was so fun! You really had to use your brain, and everyone had to pitch in to work together to get to the end. We would recommend this to others and would definitely go back again.
