School Council

Council held its annual general meeting and March meeting on Wednesday evening.

Annual General Meeting

The school’s draft annual report was presented. Once published by DET, a copy will be available on the school website. It will be found on the Accountability Documents on the Documents/Forms and Policies page.

Jeff Elliot was re-elected as Council president. Lucy Battersby was re-elected as Council vice-president. The Finance, Buildings and Ground, and Community Engagement sub-committees remained the same. Paula Nunez will act as liaison between council and Parents and Friends. The council is looking for a parent to act as liaison with the Out of Hours School Care provider. Please talk to the front office for more information.

The council also reviewed its Standing Orders.

March Council Meeting

Liza McLean was appointed a Community council member and as new Council treasurer.

Council is still working to create a committee to host an public Open Day event when the school building is completed, likely to be in Term 3 this year.

The Community Engagement sub-committee has created a communications plan that will be implemented in coming weeks. It will be shared with staff first and then parents and carers. The aim is a consistent and smooth flow of information to improve engagement and confidence.

Peter presented the Staff Workforce Survey, which demonstrated the pressures on the teaching profession in general.

The Finance sub-committee reported the school is likely to run a deficit again this year due to low student numbers and staffing costs. Warwick King stood down as treasurer after many years. Council acknowledged the quality and diligence of his work over the years and thanked him for his time.

Building and Grounds sub-committee reported contingency funding for the building project has run out due to rising costs. This means the school will take on responsibility for planting. Extra care will be taken to ensure the fence at the front of the building is completed to satisfaction as the project scope has the new fence intersecting with the old fence and this could be problematic. The nature play landscape plans for the playground area on The Avenue have gone quiet and Council will follow this up, given the large logs have already been delivered.

Community Engagement reported Class Reps have been found for Prep and both 1-2 Classes, but not for Grades 3-6. So this program will only run for the younger students. Council will soon set up an information board in the courtyard. Katie Hodge will be making a new school promotional video with the school leaders.

Council approved student free days on Monday, April 24,  Monday, May 15,  Monday, June 19 and  Monday, October 2 and the school is currently applying for a number of funding grants from a range of sources.
