Harmony Day

21 March

Food, fun and celebration

HARMONY Day is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. This day is celebrated annually on 21 March in Australia and aims at celebrating our cultural diversity. The ongoing theme of Harmony Day is 'everyone belongs'. There are more than 24 million people living in Australia who all contribute different customs, ideas, culture, languages to our country.

We will be celebrating Harmony Day here at St Norbert College on Tuesday, 21 March. Students can wear their full College Sports Uniform with House shirt or traditional attire of their heritage. We have more than 44 different nationalities that make up our diverse community. We will celebrate our diversity, from the traditional owners of this land to those who have travelled from countries all around the world to be here. This year marks the 10th annual Harmony Day celebration at our College.

On Harmony Day, the College will host a whole school Liturgical service, multicultural quiz during Homeroom, national costume parade, multicultural music and an International Food Feast. Students can participate in boomerang dot painting workshops and take their painted boomerang home. There is a limited number intake, so you have to be quick to get in. We will be having a stall run by the “Sikh” community. Activities include Turban Tying and information sessions that form safe spaces for teachers and students alike to ask questions about the Sikh faith, and to explore more about food and music instruments exclusive to the Sikh faith.

Staff and students were given the opportunity to order their lunch this week from 11 different cuisines and each cuisine had different menus to offer. Your ordered meal, paird for by the College, will be served during lunch time.

If you missed out on this order or were not in favour of these cuisines, please bring your own lunch. Café 135 will be open for recess only on that day. You can purchase drinks for $2 during lunch time outside Student Ministry.
