Maths  in 3/4

Over the last two weeks in Maths, we have been focussing on Addition and Subtraction. Throughout our Maths rotations last week, we have had a strong focus on ‘Fact Families.’ A number Fact Family is a group of Maths facts that use the same three numbers.

For example with 3, 4 and 7 we can make the following equations:

3 + 4 = 7

4 + 3 = 7

7 - 4 = 3

7 - 3 = 4

Fact Families are a great way to show children the link between Addition and Subtraction.

Last week, the students made a Fact Family house using three numbers of their choice. The students loved being hands on and creating their own house. They all put a lot of effort into making sure their Fact Family house looked fantastic!

Student quotes:

Thomas: “I really enjoyed the connection between Addition and Subtraction.”

Elise: “I liked how easy it was to learn about Fact Families.”

Isabelle and Chiara: “Fact families help you when you are working out math equations when you are stuck.”

Timmy and Toshika: “I liked how we could make different equations with the same numbers.”

Liam: “I liked how the activity was creative and fun while we were learning.”
