Academic Activities

Advanced Manufacturing Excursion

On Thursday 11th August, small groups of students in years 8, 9 and 10s attended the HPSC SMART MANUFACTURING TOUR!

The event, sponsored by SELLEN and the City of Casey was attended by staff and students who had the opportunity to visit 3 SMART Manufacturers: TRJ Engineering Group, Coolon LED Lighting and Wastech Engineering.

Students learnt about the varied careers in the engineering and manufacturing industry, speaking with workers at each workplace and included tours of the workplaces.

In between visits, everyone enjoyed a lunch provided by the City of Casey at the Casey Demons Football Clubrooms, whilst listening to guest speaker Adam Cooper talking about the many opportunities with HeadStart!  (School Based Apprenticeships/Traineeships)

Monash University Excursion

On Tuesday 16th August year 10 students visited Monash University- Clayton Campus.

Students were given first-hand university experience combined with a campus tour, interactive presentation exploring different faculties, study and career options and the opportunity to meet and work with current Monash students.

All students were engaged and enjoyed taking a look into a day in the life of a Monash University student.

The Monash excursion was so interesting and useful, they gave us a wide amount of information about what pathways we can take and how can we gain a double degree as well They gave us a tour of the whole university and everything was mesmerising and had an importance and beauty on it's own. After lunch we had a challenge of answering questions about the university and we went to different places in the university to find the answers. Everything was aesthetic, informative and meaningful. The best part for me was that my team won the challenge :)

Paddock to Product!

Paddock to Product VET Trainer Ms Chong met Guy Grossi (Chef and Restaurateur) at an industry training session!  You may know his face from TV (including Masterchef).

3 things that Guy emphasised that are important for our cooking students to become successful when they begin in the industry:

  • Basic knife skills
  • Basic technical skills
  • Understanding of pathways & industry

Paddock to Product includes a Cert II in Cooking and a Cert II in Business.  This is a unique course at Hampton Park SC.

Ms Chong will be making sure her students have the skills Guy highlighted – she knows their importance from her own experience in the industry.

Check out the photos below to see our Year 10 and 11 Paddock to Product students exploring and learning the art of culinary skills, sharing their passion for food and cooking with a bit of creative flair!

Pre-Cal PDS:

Our Pre cal PDS students have worked tirelessly with our neighbouring RGPS Grade 5 students throughout Term 2 and the start of Term 3, researching and creating a story board on an Issue that was selected by the entire group. It was a fantastic experience for all involved and many strong friendship bonds have been created, between our Pre cal PDS and RGPS grade 5 students. The gallery walk took place in E Block on Friday the 5th of August and plenty was celebrated. If you know any of the Pre cal Year 10 students around the school, please congratulate them on a job well done.
