Product to Product - Cuvee Chocolate Factory Excursion
On Wednesday 10th August, our Product to Plate VET group were joined by Workplace Skills VET students on a chocolate factory outing that would have made Willy Wonka himself jealous!
Master Chef guest, the Master chocolatier and patisserie, Deniz Karaca was our host. He took the group through a two-hour tasting session of a range of chocolates made at the factory. They were also shown the chocolate being made on the premises. No wonder it smelt so good when we got there!
Deniz has a strong passion for knowing where his cocoa beans come from. He knows his farmers and imports his beans directly from them. This is to ensure there is no unsustainable work or environmental practices involved.
Students tasted real liquid chocolate! It turns out the first type they tried needed a bit longer – most preferred the second batch we tried.
It was a real eye-opener to learn how big chocolate companies made chocolate, versus making chocolate the “real” way. Deniz spoke about small changes we can make every day to support farmers and the environment – like choosing free range eggs over factory grown.
The students enjoyed their afternoon – it was cool to see the chocolate making machines at work!
