Students in Year 8 have continued to develop their culinary skills in the Food Technology area and are producing some amazing dishes. It has been wonderful to witness the collaboration between students and seeing the delicious dishes they are producing. They have made Vroom Vegetable soup, Pasta Carbonara, and Spaghetti Bolognaise with a side of garlic bread. This week students will be making Cheesy Crumbed Chicken served with a fresh garden salad.
Over the last two weeks students have travelled to Spain and Italy. Students made Empanadas – a baked or fried turnover consisting of pastry and filling. Students made their own pastry and a savoury filling and then baked the Empanadas in the oven. Last week students travelled to Italy and participated in traditional pasta making. After making a traditional egg pasta dough, students used a pasta machine to make their own fettucine. Some students also made hand cut pasta shapes including Farfalle (bowtie) To complement their handmade pasta, students produced a Napoli sauce – a simple tomato pasta sauce consisting of tomatoes, onion, garlic and herbs. This coming week students will be travelling across the Mediterranean to Greece!
The Year 4/5/6 students have continued to design and produce their own softies including penguins, jellyfish, horses and dogs. It has been wonderful to see the students persevere when learning new skills of pattern making and sewing and achieving success. Keep up your amazing effort Year 4/5/6 students!
This week students in Foundation/1 have been making Cress Egg Heads. Students used empty eggshells and filled them with some potting mix and cress seeds. Students will nurture their cress egg heads by watering them daily and watching their cress grow!
Students in Year 4/5/6 were thrilled to be able to set their mushrooms up this week. The compost was frosty white with mycelium and ready for the peat moss to be spread over the compost. Students are looking forward to watching them grow so they are then able to harvest them!
On the 2nd of August, students in Year 5/6 at Edenhope College, St. Malachys and Apsley Primary schools came together for a Transition morning at Edenhope College. Students had the opportunity to collaborate with each other and display their inner MasterChef making Cheese and Bacon Rolls. It was wonderful to see students, mix, knead, and shape some interesting and creative bread shapes. Thank you to all the students for their willingness to learn and fabulous bread rolls! The next Transition will be on August 30th where students will be participating in an Art and an Agriculture lesson. We look forward to seeing the students back at Edenhope College soon.
