7-10 Lorne Camp

A very early start on Wednesday morning didn’t stop the excitement on the bus on our way to our Surf Camp in Lorne. Goroke students were dropped off at our College, and we stopped in Balmoral to pick students up as well. A long bus ride was broken up with a break in Mortlake before continuing through to the Deans Marsh entrance making our way to the beautiful coastal town of Lorne. We were welcomed by the staff at the Lorne Surf Lifesaving Club who ran our camp. We were straight into our program as we arrived, group 1 off surfing and group 2 walking to the Lorne Pier. After some afternoon tea, the groups swapped over before playing some bonding games on the beach. It was great to see the leadership our students took in getting everyone involved in the activities. We had some dinner and then went on another walk down to the swing bridge, along the beach to the pier and back to our accommodation where we settled in for the evening. Thursday morning was an early start for some who went for a run / walk along the beach. After bacon and eggs for breakfast, we walked to Teddy’s Lookout through miserable conditions. The view was definitely worth it. During our time in Lorne, we learnt about safety at the beach and how to stand up on a surfboard. After a few nose dives, most of us were successful at standing up on our boards. We ended the night with a walk to the pier and a trivia. The Hoffs taking out our winning prize whilst All-sorts and Boness tied for the wooden spoon. Friday morning, we celebrated Layla’s birthday with balloons and party poppers and of course singing her a Happy Birthday. Some of us were excited to jump back in the ocean for a final surf whilst the rest of us went fishing or down the main street to explore a little more of what Lorne has to offer. We left just in time on Friday before the rain hit. A special thanks to our bus drivers, the staff from all three schools that looked after us and the Lorne Surf Lifesaving Club for having us. Edenhope College students should be commended on their outstanding behaviour and manners during our time on camp.
