Principal Report
Term 3 is typically a busy time for schools as we commence preparations for the following year. COVID and influenza have had a huge impact on our community over the winter months and the impact has been felt in the classrooms with student and staff absences. We have worked hard to ensure a level of stability for our students at school as they continue to transition into what was once normal. It will be nice to start enjoying some warmer weather as we move into spring and fingers crossed we see a decline in illness. Remember if you are unwell, stay at home.
The first five weeks of term a large number of our students have had the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities. We have had Year 9 students skiing the slopes of Bogong, to our Years 7 – 10 students surfing the waves of Lorne. Year 12 Biology students had a day in a lab in Melbourne and 6 of our students from Grade 5 & 6 made their way to Somers Camp with a broad range of students from across the South West. A big shout out to our Hockey Team and their super-coach, Mr Keiren Brennan, for making its way into the state finals – which is no small feat!
The range and number of activities won’t let up in the coming weeks with the Grade 4, 5, 6 camp to Sovereign Hill and the Grade 2-3 overnight stay coming up as well. Whilst it makes for a busy time for everyone, there is no doubt that camps and excursions are an intrinsic way for our young people to developing socially and emotionally. It is magnificent to be able to do this again.
Over the course of this term, students in Year 8, 9 and 10 students will be participating in several sessions to determine subjects that will support their potential pathways. Students have participated in careers days, chosen from extended elective lists, worked with careers and pathways teachers and we will continue to engage in dialogue with individual students and families to assist our young people to make informed choices that will support them to choose their subjects wisely.
We have been asked by the Department to remind parents and students that it is mandated by the Education Department that students in Government Schools are not permitted to use their phones between 9.00am and 3.30pm during a school day. The purpose of the rule is to ensure a safe environment to learn without inappropriate mobile phone use (including cyberbullying) or distractions.
As always, If you have any questions, concerns or feedback don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at the College.
Kind Regards,
Chad Frost
