Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Week 6 Update

While many are enjoying the peace and quiet of the transition from Winter to Summer sport, many of the Junior School boys have been hard at work training for the upcoming Athletics season. The boys have been working hard and are now halfway through their season. With only two carnivals remaining, all the members of the Junior School Athletics Squad have shown improvements in their times,  heights and distances.

Last Saturday, the boys competed in the Newington Invitational Carnival at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre (SOPAC), Homebush. The carnival was a great success for our squad. We placed in almost every event we entered, with many boys finishing their heats in the top two places. The structure of the carnival means there are no finals, so all heats are graded. A magnificent effort by all involved. A special mention must go to Xavier Khoury of Year 5. Xavier broke the 100m record for U 11s on Saturday with a time of 13.15 seconds, the previous record standing at 13.23 seconds. We wish the boys all the best for the BPSSA carnival this Friday at Saint Ignatius’ College, and for the IPSHA carnival on Monday at SOPAC, Homebush.

A reminder to all boys and their families to please download the new College App. For the coming Summer season, all notifications and information on Summer Co-curricular sport will come through the new College App. Team App will be phased out and notifications will then cease through this system. The College App is very user friendly and a central place to receive brief notices from the College.

With the Junior School Winter season ending two weeks ago, it has freed up some space for the boys to return to some club sport. Many of the boys in the Junior School have been involved this year in rugby for the Old Boys’ Club. Over the weekend, many of our students played in the finals for club rugby. While I am still waiting to hear the results, I have no doubt that all the boys continued their strong form from College rugby and performed in a skilled and passionate manner. Congratulations to these boys and all the other boys that made it into club sport finals in the Winter season.
