What's Happening at CHPS....

TechGirls

On Monday the 25th of July, Croydon Hills Primary School participated in TechGirls.  We designed apps to help our community. This was a great experience for us to see if we were interested in STEM.  It was a fun experience, and we give all our thanks to Kaitlyn, Mrs Kitching, and Miss Gommers.  We got to do a lot of research and had a lot of fun.

Science Updates

At the end of last term our Junior classes finished their exploration of Light and Sound by preparing and presenting a short shadow puppet show that used sound effects to tell the story instead of words. From each class we have chosen a group that did the best based on their teamwork, story and the sound effects they used.

Our top 3 performances in no particular order came from:

JLC, who really outdid themselves when a Koala and a Wombat had to survive a storm thanks to Zoe, Sammy, Ella and Jayde.

JPB, who had Madelyn, Nicole and Eva make best friends out of an unlikely collection of sea animals.

JTA, for The Spinosaurus Picnic performed by Mia, Nicholas and Patrick.

Congratulations still go to everyone and in particular to these groups from each grade.

In JBJ, Milana, Ellie, Rachel and Allegra told a story of a cat and a fairy who were scared of the noises in an empty house.

In JCB, Lucia, Frankie, Billie T and Isla had a spider chasing a mouse who wound up dancing together.

In JAW, Lucy, Kiera, Amity, Matilda and Will, who stood in for Isabella, introduced us to 3 little fairies stuck in a storm who were caught and put in jail by a super bad guy!

JUT was wowed by Anvi, Olivia, Sadie and Shehzad who had a sound filled story of a fairy protecting a castle on the water from a mean dragon. As well as by Charlie, Jonty, Miles and Will C. When an alien picked up the corona virus but still managed to save the moon from a passing asteroid!

In JKB the story of Red Riding Hood was given a twist by Archer, Bonnie, Annabelle and Zara.

JJO heard about the Big Bad Halloween, played by Rey, Max, Lachie and Sahan.

Our Seniors also outdid themselves in their projects. In order to show how different sorts of energy can be transformed into electricity The groups had to research a presentation that included a physical model of the system. This showed the original energy source be it wind, hydro, thermal, solar and how we use out technology to convert it into usable power.

We had some incredible models and some very well researched presentations. Congratulations to all the students involved.
