Inclusion
I was recently doing some Googling and came across a website promoting ‘World Inclusion Day’. With Disability Inclusion, Health, Wellbeing and Culture being areas of my focus at Croydon Hills this sparked my interest.
The World Inclusion Day website talks about a world where everyone belongs and uses such words as acceptance, support and embracing differences (World Inclusion Day: http://worldinclusionday.org/ accessed 28th July 2022).
Imagine what society would look like if this was achieved. Imagine if, instead of having one day to focus on inclusion, people practised acceptance and respect every day.
As reflected in our CHPS School Values, this is our aim.
We model respect, resilience, integrity and care and compassion in all that we do at CHPS. We embed them in our teaching practices, and focus on the strengths that every child and parent/carer bring to our school community. We celebrate people.
It has been wonderful to see some of the presentations that students have been sharing with their parents/carers in this weeks Parent Teacher Conferences. There is so much to celebrate about the diversity that each student brings to our school community.
Tonight, around the dinner table, I encourage you to reflect on what inclusion means to you, your family, and the wider community. Being kind, using manners, being patient and understanding all go such a long way to helping people feel included. Let’s reflect on the impact that our words and actions have on others every day and keep striving to be inclusive.
Speaking of Inclusion, I would like to shout out to the Year 5/6 ‘Helping Hands’ teams for the great work that they are doing in the Wellbeing playground every recess (except Wednesdays, where it is lunchtime!). It has been wonderful to see many students engaging in games being facilitated by our peer leaders. Well done.
Wellbeing and Culture Newsletter page merge
From this week onwards, the ‘Weekly Wellbeing’ and ‘Culture Connect’ pages are merging into one page and will be called ‘Wellbeing and Culture.’ Thanks to all staff and students who contribute articles.
Until nest time,
