Head of Middle Years

Values help inform the way individual’s think, the way they express themselves verbally and influence actions. In the Middle Years, we work towards reinforcing our College Values of Grace, Integrity, Courage and Respect. We see and hear these in the way we speak, interact and go about our daily lives together. Whilst at times we may need to be re-directed to our College Values and to who we strive to be, these Values underpin our decision making, in turn creating our culture and climate.

There are times when parents / caregivers may receive a SEQTA notice from staff who have identified when their students have exemplified one of our College Values. This positive reinforcement, whether it be via a message home or verbally to a student, further enhances who we want to be as a Middle Years, and College. It promotes the interactions we encourage, which in turn sets the tone within the school.

It was wonderful to attend the Year 7 assembly in Week 5, where staff and students make it a point to recognise individuals who exemplify and demonstrate our Values, in and out of the classroom. Below are a few pictures from the assembly, where a range of students received Value Awards.

Parenting Tips

With adolescent children of my own, I am very familiar with the following statement, “You are so strict. Everybody else’s parents let them do that.” Sound familiar? Well, you are not alone! Setting boundaries and guiding our children to make better decisions whilst they develop their independence is our role, but it’s not always easy. As parents and caregivers, we do this because we care, we want to protect our children and we want them to develop a strong value system that will positively influence their decision-making and interactions. In this short, interesting article, there are some handy tips on how to do this successfully with teenage children. Enjoy the read…
