Association of German Teachers of Victoria

The German department runs several extracurricular activities across the year. These are often state-wide competitions that give students the opportunity to celebrate their successes and share their enthusiasm for Language learning.

Congratulations to Imogen who won first place in 2021 in the State Final Poetry Competition.

In Year 5 we were asked to work on a poem as part of an assessment, which could also be submitted to a competition. I worked on a poem that was about a little girl stealing cookies from a cookie jar and submitted it. I had to read my poem to the judges of the competition and wait an hour for the result. Then when I got the news that I won the competition I literally jumped out of my seat. I felt like all my hard work in German has paid off.
Receiving the shield this year and holding on to it for 2 weeks made it feel surreal and it motivated me to do more in German and it gave me the confidence to participate in more of these competitions.

ICAS School Competitions

August is ICAS School Competition month. ICAS is designed to target students’ higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling, and Digital Technologies.

The tests will be held after school to minimise the impact on classes and room availability.  The only exception to this is the Year 3 Spelling Bee, as they will be on camp.  Entries to the Competition have now closed.  If you have enrolled your child in one of the competitions, please note the date and time your child will be participating in the assessment.
