Year 5 PYP Exhibition 2022

Taking place in Term 4, the Year 5 students will be completing the 'Sharing the planet' Unit of Inquiry, culminating in an exhibition. The Exhibition Unit is the result of their experiences working with the IB Primary Years Programme and is a summative assessment of their understandings of the programme principles and framework.
The below information is an introduction to the exhibition process and how Year 5 parents can support their child through their learning journey. Throughout the weeks, there will be further communication and details regarding the final exhibition event itself.
What is the Exhibition?
The purpose of the Exhibition is to display the students’ conceptual understanding and to celebrate their success as learners, working within the framework of the programme. It is an opportunity for students to bring together all the subject disciplines and utilise all their transdisciplinary skills they have been learning, through their time in the Junior Years. It is conducted independently, with teacher and mentor support and guidance.
Importantly, in this unit, teachers and parents allow students to independently explore their own capacity, talents, and gifts for learning. Students are given the opportunity to create their own plan for learning, to conduct learning activities, to demonstrate what they have learned and to assemble an exhibit where they can interact with an audience in a meaningful way, about something that is important to the students themselves.
The entire learning process is done in small study groups or individually. As a result of this investigation, the task is for students to educate others and convince them to take some form of positive action. The Exhibition event involves students exhibiting their work to an audience of students, staff and parents. Exhibits are completed independently, to reflect a true understanding of the task, the chosen issue, and students’ skills in developing, conducting, assessing and presenting the results of an investigation.
Framework of the Exhibition Unit consists of a theme, a central idea, and lines of inquiry as follows:
