Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Nazareth
In the past fortnight, schools have been encouraged to revert into minimising risks to prevent Covid from disrupting school life as it has in previous years. We strongly encourage the wearing of masks, especially when indoors, and we will continue to minimise risk by not having large numbers of students assembled in the one area. Generally, if meetings or gatherings are simple dissemination of information then it will be done virtually. If it is an imperatively interactive session, it will be held with risk minimisation measures in place, including a strong recommendation to wear masks. I thank you for your support in this matter. As always, when we work together, we can achieve so much and continue to educate our students face to face.
I congratulate the school’s SIS Cross Country team that represented Nazareth at Baxter Park on Tuesday. They competed to the best of their abilities and did the College proud. We are proud of the effort they put in while competing against the other SIS schools. I would like to thank Mr Chuck Chan (Sports and Academy Coordinator) and his assistant, Ms Tenille Kirk, for overseeing the program and the organization of the day. They were well supported by Mr John Brenton, Ms Romy Bilu, Ms Antigone Kappas, Ms Merryn Molloy and Ms Michelle Nogueira at the venue.
I also congratulate all the students who attended the House Athletics Carnival last Thursday. It was terrific to see so many of our students at the track and we were blessed to have such wonderful sunny weather for the competition. Congratulations to the winning House – McAuley. It was a fantastic effort put in by all competitors on the day. Once again, I would like to thank Chuck and Tenille for their coordination of the day. They received plenty of support from staff and students, but I would like to offer special thanks to the Maintenance Team – Mr Bruno Cirillo and Mr Ryan Kolbe.
This week the Heads of House recommended that students with long hair will no longer be required to have their hair tied back. This change in policy will run on a trial basis for the remainder of Term 3. Students will be required to always carry a hair tie and use it in practical classes such as Food Tech, Arts, Wood Tech and Science due to OH&S risks. All other aspects of the school uniform policy remain unchanged regarding piercings, make-up, nail polish and the wearing of the school uniform. This will continue to be monitored and those in breach will receive uniform infringements.
We have now reached the Subject Selection period when all year levels are choosing subjects or making important decisions about their future for 2023. An abundance of information is on our website and will also be available at the Careers Expo and Subject Selection Evening tonight. I wish our students all the best for your deliberations, and if you have any concerns, please contact your Pastoral Teacher.
In concluding, I encourage any families who wish to join the Nazareth College Community Association (NCCA) to please make yourself known to the President, Ms Pauline Coulepis. This group of dedicated parents and guardians support you by providing information, activities and opportunities for families to connect with the College.
God bless.
Mr Sam Cosentino
