Try a Trade Expo Excursion
Last Tuesday the Year 11 and 12 VCALers and the Year 10 Leapsters went to the 2022 Try A Trade Expo. Here we were exposed not just to stall holders with lots of information to share, but also had the opportunity to try some skills out. Could we make it as a pit stop mechanic by being fastest to change a tyre with an impact gun? Could we decorate Bakers Delight goodies in their patisserie kitchen? It was a great opportunity to learn more about careers, courses and industries of an applied nature that may be of interest to our Applied Learners. I was proud to see our students taking every opportunity to be involved. Well done everyone.
Check out these photos below:
Work Experience – Year 10
Well, Work Experience is done and dusted for another year. Our Year 10 students did us proud in a range of workplace settings, taking every opportunity presented to them. We did not have ONE SINGLE incident or negative review. Staff reported positively on all visits which was great to hear.
Well done Year 10s!
Year 12 Applications for Further Study Post NAZ.
On Monday 1 August VTAC will be opened for students to apply for university and TAFE courses for next year. VTAC stands for Victorian Tertiary Application Centre. This is the Victorian avenue to apply for further study. It is a one stop shop to apply for courses, Scholarships and SEAS (Special Entrance Access Scheme)
Students will need to create a user account and register once VTAC Opens on MONDAY 1 AUGUST.
I will be running a session on the process for all Year 12’s and will also be helping them individually with their applications. Students are encouraged to make an appointment with me to do this between 1 August – 29 September when timely applications close. SEAS and Scholarship close on Friday 7 October.
The best thing students can do to prepare for this is to do some research on the VTAC website on www.vtac.edu.au and to attend Open Days.
Open Days
Open days happen on weekends during August and September.
These are not just for Year 12 students. As they are all on during the same weekends, it is sometimes impossible to get to all those you are interested in. For this reason it is recommended that students attend some in Year 10, more in Year 11 and by Year 12, it is imperative that they visit institutions that specifically have the courses you are wanting to apply for.
Please find attached a list of Open Days. This kicks off next Sunday at Swinburne University.
Subject Selection – Years 9-11
Subject Selection is often an overwhelming process for both students and parents. Nazareth College has provided loads of information and resources to assist with this process. I encourage students to make the best use of this material. It is imperative that the Subject Selection Information Evening and Career Expo are attended for obtaining further information from Naz staff and Expo stall holders.
Sarina Russo Apprenticeships
Sarina Russo Apprenticeships is a local apprenticeship company that lists available apprenticeships (a lot of them are local to us) from Hairdressing, Carpentry, Plumbing and more.
I have attached this week’s list along with their websites to find out more.
Make sure you speak to Sarina Russo Apprenticeships at our Careers Expo next Thursday night if you are interested.
In Conclusion
As we head into a very busy term in the Careers room, I would encourage students to use whatever resources are made available to them, both in and outside of Naz, for subject selection, applying for tertiary courses and for choosing VCE or VCE VM pathways.
I reiterate that the best decision is an informed decision!
