UNITE: The Year 7 & 8 Basketball teams competed in interschool sports on Monday 8th August. The Girls team showed tremendous improvement throughout the day winning 2 games and losing 1. Unfortunately the close loss to Grovedale College eliminated the team from the next stage. Some highlights included Sienna N’s long range shooting, Ruby McC’s rebounding and Tiana D’s tenacity.
The Boys team played some quality basketball in the pool matches to progress to the semi-final. They faced a strong Western Heights team in the semi and were eventually overpowered. Some highlights on the day included Alex B’s physical play, Max K’s rebounding and Kaiden M’s shooting.
FLOURISH: Every Tuesday, a couple of our Year 9 students help out at Torquay Community House. Selecting a book weekly, students read the book to preschoolers and spark imagination and curiosity through the wonderful world of books!
Here we have pictured Issy E. engaging with one of the lovely little preschoolers.
FLOURISH: Congratulations to all of our outstanding Year 12 Students who have been presented with Academic Awards for their efforts in semester one.
Fantastic effort by all!
First semester of 2022 has been extremely busy for the students involved in the HEADSTART Program. Students work with HEADSTART Coordinator to explore pathways; ensure they are job ready and know what is expected of them before starting a School Based Apprenticeship and Traineeships.
Students in the program complete work placement (s) to ensure they are a good fit and can-do multiple work placement if needed. School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships are a valuable part of beginning a student’s career in their chosen field.

STRIVE: We congratulate Brooke H. (Year 12) on winning the Geelong Gallery Portrait Prize
for students aged from year 10-12 across the region. This is an outstanding achievement and reflects Brooke's remarkable ability to continue to grow and communicate as an artist. We also celebrate the work of Steve G. (Year 10) on his highly commended work in the same category. These are very well-deserved awards and the art department is very proud of both students. This annual exhibition of the work of local students honours Jules Francois Archibald, after whom the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ famous portrait prize is named, and his very special connection to Geelong as his birthplace.
The Who’s Who Portrait Prize aims to encourage and inspire young artists to celebrate local or regional identities, their personal histories and achievements through portraiture.
Senior art students are working hard on their final works for assessment. This week we celebrate the work of Chelsea H. and Maya H.D.
RESPECT: Friday the 5th August was Principal's day in Victoria. This is a day to acknowledge and appreciate the work of principals across our schools. Here at Surf Coast Secondary College, we would like to tip our caps and say a big thank you to our Principal Team:
Our principal staff have our students at the heart of all they do. A recent article in the Age described the qualities need of contemporary AFL coaches, which is a pretty accurate characterisation of the core work of principals, where every day is match day!
"The coach empathises with all those around them, listens well, communicates clearly and is calm under pressure, while also having the capacity to direct the playing group both through the week and spontaneously on match day"
Our principal team provides leadership, direction, management, coaching and counselling to enable and equip our young people and staff to reach their full potential. This day gives the opportunity to acknowledge the very hard and quality work our principals do.
We thank and appreciate you!

"My role within the school environment is Education Support
I am an Aide in the Yr 7 area where I encourage and provide support for the students in their daily activities.
Prior to this position I was working in Integration at Northern Bay College over the Yr levels 9-12.
I am most looking forward to establishing relationships with not only the students but teachers and support staff at SCSC. I very much enjoy the vibe of Torquay and the strong sense of community.
When I am not working you will find me having a coffee on the beach, walking, at a market or working on my art. "
