Cochrane Cup
O'Connor's U14 Boys had a big day traveling and playing Rugby League at Port Macquarie last Thursday. Accompanied by Mr Lush, Mr McCann and Mr Honeysett, they participated in the Northern Country Rugby League Cochrane Cup Finals Day. After watching the sunrise on the trip down, their first game was against the eventual winners, All Saints College, Maitland who played well, winning comfortably.
Their second game against St Edwards College, Gosford. saw the team show great improvement during the game with St Edwards winning by a smaller margin than their first game.
Their final game against St Joseph’s Regional College, Port Macquarie, saw the boys put their best effort in with all boys playing well. They eventually went down in a close encounter 10-8.
Ben Kaberry was a standout and was in the top few players of all teams for the day. Captaining the side, he displayed great leadership skills and gave a fantastic speech at the presentation.
Many thanks to Mr Lush, Mr McCann and Mr Honeysett for coaching and helping with the driving on the day.
Oliver Martin
Oliver (Ollie) has recently returned from Bathurst where he has competed in the U14s Country Rugby Team. Although their game resulted in the City team being the victors, the selection in the Country Team was a great achievement for Ollie with trials taking place at Maitland a month previous. Well done Ollie!
Anastasia Martin
Year 12 Student 2021 Anastasia Martin has continued to train hard in her chosen sport of Rugby. Currently living in Canberra and playing for The Royals, Anastasia was also selected at Maitland to play in the U18s team at Bathurst for the Country Team and due to her 2 try contribution that helped lead the Country Team to victory.
Anastasia has been selected into the ACT 7s team that will be playing in Adelaide later in the year as part of the National 7s Tournament.
