Girls in Physics

A group of female students in Years 9 and 10 attended the ‘Girls in Physics’ event at the University of Melbourne on Friday, 22 July. ‘Girls in Physics’ focused on fostering girls' passion for Science and showcasing the pathways available through Physics.

The program started with two keynote speeches delivered by experts from the School of Physics. The topics were ‘The Physical Architecture of Biology’ and ‘The Matter of Everything’. Following the talks, the students explored laser and optics through hands-on activities in the laboratories. In addition, the students observed state-of-the-art laser machines and learned about the applications of optics in different areas. The last part of the event was a careers panel, during which four female scientists introduced many educational and career pathways for Physics students.
