College Uniform   

We would like to congratulate and thank all of those students who have been following the College Uniform Policy by wearing the correct uniform at school. The College Leadership Team have been doing a series of uniform checks over the past few weeks to monitor and challenge those students who are choosing not to follow the school rules and to congratulate those that are following the school uniform policy. Those students who have been wearing their complete school uniform have been placed in a draw and, if chosen at random, received a prize. This is a just a small recognition, however, we do want to acknowledge that there are a large number of students at Wantirna who do the right thing every day and wear the correct uniform. 

The purpose of having a school uniform is to provide a sense of belonging and pride of association in students to the College. It also serves a purpose of safety and security. Our College uniform has been developed via consultation with students, parents and teachers to ensure that all groups are happy with the uniform, that it meets safety requirements in the practical subject classrooms and promotes a sense of security by allowing for the identification of students that belong to Wantirna College. We have spent some significant time over the last few years adapting our uniform after consultation with students to determine what it is that they would like to wear. The most recent of these was the introduction of the College Rugby Jumper.

We do expect that all students will wear their full College Uniform to school every day. We understand that it does get cold during these winter months, however, there are a number of uniform options that students can choose from to keep themselves warm. We understand that at times, a student may not be able to wear an item of the uniform. When this occurs, there is a simple process that the student needs to follow. They are required to bring a note from home outlining why they are out of uniform and present this to their Home Group Teacher who will issue the student with a uniform pass. When the student is questioned throughout the day why they are not in uniform, they will be able to present their uniform pass and nothing further will occur.

When a student does not bring a note from home, the uniform breach is recorded via Compass and the student will receive 3 demerit points. The student will then be issued with a uniform pass so that when they are questioned throughout the day, they will be able to show their pass and no further action will need to occur. Once they receive 10 or more demerit points, the student will receive an after school uniform detention.

We request that all students continue to wear the correct College Uniform to school each day and ask families to assist their child in meeting the school’s uniform policy. If you require new uniform items, these are available via our College Uniform Shop. Information on the Uniform Shop opening hours can be accessed via the College Website. If there are financial reasons why a students is unable to wear the College Uniform, please contact our Student Wellbeing Team as they may be able to provide families with some assistance.

Subject Selection Process

Students in Year 8-11 are currently going through the Subject Selection process for 2020. This process has been slightly different for each student depending on their Year Level and has involved activities such as, looking through the Curriculum Handbook, attending the Curriculum Information Night, participating in ‘taster’ workshops, application and interviews for selected subjects and course counselling interviews. To ensure that students are making informed decisions about their pathway options through the school, we do invest quite a lot of time and resources into this process so that students have all the information that they need prior to selecting their course for the following year. Subject Selections need to be completed via Web Preferences by Friday 16th August. Once the subject selection process is completed, the relevant subject charges will become available on Compass from the 21st August and will close on Monday 2nd September. The College will then work on putting all of the relevant information together and will notify students of their 2020 subjects in Term 4. As this is an ongoing process, students and families will be notified of relevant information via Compass and/or the College Newsletter.
