Year 7 Adviser Report

Year 7

I cannot believe that the first year of high school has come to an end (only 5 years to go). It only seems like yesterday that 120 students were anxiously waiting in the hall, in their brand new uniforms, waiting to see what high school brings. From that day, our year has been part of many academic, sporting and social achievements and can be proud of the people that they are growing into. Overcoming hurdles is a big part of moving through high school and it has been pleasing to see that our students are developing both resilience, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

As the Year Adviser, you watch the students grow and mature from shy nervous students to bubbly energetic students, who are eager to learn. However the most rewarding aspect has been witnessing students grow their relationships with other students and with their teachers. This can be a daunting situation especially for students who started at Henry Kendall not knowing many people, many students have dealt with in a mature fashion.

Throughout the year, students have been rewarded for positive contributions to the school through our Vivo Rewards Program. The top 10 Vivo earners for the year had a great day at Raging Waters as a thank you for their excellent behaviour. I can announce that our Top 5 Vivo recipients for the year were:

  1. Kathryn Cameron
  2. Sarah Leggett
  3. Pia McLean Barth
  4. Molly Seeto
  5. Oscar Jagger

Congratulations on an outstanding year!

Next year will see another challenging and rewarding year. Students will encounter new teachers and move to new spaces within our school as they move away from the structures of our Middle School program. This will provided the students with the extra responsibility of working alongside the rest of the school. I am confident that our cohort will rise to this challenge.

I would like this opportunity to thank all Year 7 teachers and Mr Macdonald (Head Teacher Middle School) for all the work, enthusiasm, energy, and time they have giving to all the students. The growth of year 7 both personally and educationally would have not been possible without your positive contribution to their education. I would also like to thank all the parents/carers for your support and for those who I have worked closely with to provide your sons and daughters with the best education possible for your children.

Last but not least, I would like to give a big thank you to all the students in Year 7. Thank you for letting me get to know you and letting me support your education. We all have our own stories and I have enjoyed learning about the different individuals that we have in this group. I am extremely proud to be your Year Adviser.

I would sincerely like to wish all students and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I look forward to hearing all about the good times that people have during their holiday break. Have a safe and happy holidays. See you all in 2020.
