Student Services

Once again this term has been a very productive time in Student Services. Here are a few of our Term 4 highlights:

White Ribbon Day Assembly

The White Ribbon Day Assembly was a significant event this term. The assembly was led by our school captains and supported by a number of our male staff. They spoke passionately about respectful relationships and their commitment to creating a society where no one has to live in fear of domestic or family violence. The assembly concluded with each male student in the school creating a sign of white ribbons displayed on the Batley St fence.

Students As Lifestyle Activists

Our SALSA (Students As Lifestyle Activists) students have been very busy this term.

Commendations to Clare Norris, Jamie Renton, Mackenzie Waterhouse and Brooke Naylor who presented the Henry Kendall High School projects at the SALSA Student Voices event.

The SALSA program initially involved Year 10 leaders completing their training and then teaching four lessons about food choices, physical activity, healthy lifestyle and individual & community action to our Year 7’s. Since then, our SALSA team has created an action plan that involves working in partnership with the P&C, Miss Tegan Perkins and our general assistant, Mr Joshua Cheverall.

Their projects for 2019 have included:

  1. Changing the design of the girls' sport short to encourage increased physical activity
  2. Installing a water station on the COLA
  3. Facilitating ‘Lets Move @ Lunchtime’.

Anti-bullying Summit

Breeze Hollier, Mackenzie Goodhew, Lachlan Knowles and Alex McGavin represented our school admirably in the recent NSW Anti-bullying Summit.

These students worked tirelessly for two days to create a project that will be implemented next year. It will be launched on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on the 20 March emphasising the important role of the bystander in all bullying situations.

Christmas Hampers

We have been given donations from a number of parents and staff across our school community to assist our families in need. A big thank you goes out to our P & C who donated the bulk of the hamper items this year. The generosity of our community has been overwhelming and very much appreciated. Student Services has had the pleasure of issuing these hampers to very grateful families across our school community this week.

On behalf of the Student Services team, I would like to wish all our families a happy and safe festive season.
