Year 10 DP Transition

Next step on their educational journey

by Dr Lenny Robinson-McCarthy, DP Coordinator

On Friday 24 November the Year 10s completed their final day of the Early Commencement Program for the IB Diploma. During the 10 days preceding, students attended classes in all of their subjects, had the opportunity to meet with their teachers, including staff new to Preshil, and participated in specialist sessions designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the Diploma Programme. These included a session on wellbeing, sessions on the Core and a session on academic honesty.

On the final day of the program students attended a brilliant workshop at the State Library where they were introduced to the library’s resources and provided with guidance on how to use them.  At the end of the workshop students were able to pick up their library cards in readiness for next year.

It was an excellent start to what will be a very exciting two years. It seemed that students were genuinely looking forward to this next step on their educational journey – attendance throughout the program was exceptional and teachers reported lots of enthusiasm and a real sense that students were ‘stepping up’ to the challenges that senior school presents.

Over the next week or so, keep an eye on your emails - with new staff there will possibly be additions to the booklist and parents will receive copies of both the academic honesty policy and the assessment policy to sign off on.

Thanks for working with us to create the very best start to Preshil’s inaugural Diploma year.

Parent feedback

Following is an extract from a communication by one of our DP parents to Lenny last week:

I just wanted to share with you our delight as parents to witness our son returning from school excited to share his day…seeing his school as an environment where “I can extend my knowledge”. He has been excited by each of his subjects and affirmed that the subject choices he made are what he had hoped for.

To the passionate teaching staff who make a conscious effort every day to bring to the learning environment the very best of themselves, to inspire the very best back from their pupils, thank you.
