Grade 6

Welcome back for our last Term of Primary School! The students have settled back into our routines extremely well. It's been great to see everyone again and hear all about their school holiday adventures.
A massive thank you to all of the parents who dedicated their time to contacting our novel study books. This is greatly appreciated!
English
Grade 6 has begun reading their new novel: Us Mob Walawurru. Throughout the next two weeks we will continue to analyse author techniques and adapt for use in our own writing as we delve into the genre of factual recounts.
At a sentence level, students will be revising and revising their ability to:
-add appositives to sentences.
-add relative clauses.
In addition, students will be reading texts to build their background knowledge, enabling them to access a better understanding of the text. They will practice note-taking and organisating their information to write Single Paragraph Outlines (SPOs).
Mathematics
We continue to practice our number fluency for 4 minutes each day. We encourage students to practice at home, riding to school with friends, or on their way to sport with family members.
Over the next fortnight, Grade 6 will be completing the Location & Transformation unit and starting Data Investigation, where they will practice:
-Identifying a problem and collecting secondary data
-Using digital tools to display side-by-side column graphs
-Using digital tools to display line graphs
Creative Connections
This term, we are trialling a 'rebrand' of Inquiry called 'Creative Connections.'
What Creative Connections is:
- Application time where students use knowledge already explicitly taught (from novels/picture books, Core Knowledge, Maths) in a creative task to show or exhibit their learning.
- Students have choice and voice within well-planned, structured tasks.
Timetabled for two sessions per week.
Throughout the next two weeks, Grade 6's will be creating a game that aligns with their Novel study text: Us Mob Walawurru.
