Grade 1
Explore the Learning in Grade 1

The students have had an excellent start to their final term of Grade 1. In English, the students have begun a new Core Knowledge unit, 'Animals and their Habitats.'
In this unit, the students are exploring questions such as:
How have forest animals adapted to the deciduous forest habitat?
How have animals adapted to live in the tropical rainforest habitat?
How do plants and animals depend on each other in fresh-water habitats?
To further enhance students' understandings of this unit, the Grade 1s also visited the Melbourne Zoo this week.

The students have also been working on identifying four sentence types (statement, question, command, exclamation) and the process of writing a narrative.
Students will be learning about probability outcomes, including chance experiments such as rolling a dice, and familiar real-life examples. They will also continue to work on 'sharing' using arrays, with remainders.
This term, we are trialling a 'rebrand' of Inquiry called 'Creative Connections.'

What Creative Connections is:

During Creative Connections this term, we have been building on the students' knowledge of animals and habitats from our Core Knowledge unit, and the students have been working on a plan to create a diorama about an animal in its habitat.
