We are really excited to celebrate Footy Day 2025 with our whole school community!
Here’s what’s happening:
- Junior Skills (Prep–2, 9:30–10:30am): 5 fun activities including handballing, kicking, bouncing, and marking.
- Senior Skills (Years 3–6, 11:40–12:30pm): 6 activities including footy volleyball, goal kicking, handballing, and marking.
- Footy Quiz (2:40–3:10pm): Each year level group (Prep, 1–2, 3–4, 5–6) will take part in a 10-question quiz. The winning classes will be announced at the end of the day.

Netball Victoria Championships Finals Day
From a wildcard entry to Champions—our Year 6 girls carved an unforgettable path through the Netball Victoria Championships Finals and etched a place into the St Martin’s history books.
On Tuesday 9th September, ten Year 6 girls proudly represented St Martin of Tours at the Netball Victoria Championships Finals in Parkville. Having narrowly finished second in their preliminary pool, they were fortunate to gain a wildcard entry into Finals Day. The tournament was divided into two pools, with a crossover semi-final format leading to the grand final.
The team arrived a mixture of excited and nervous, but grateful for the opportunity to compete. As has often been the case, they started slowly in their first match. Trailing 5–3 at half-time, they faced a challenge with only seven-minute halves. However, they fought back with determination to secure a thrilling 9–7 victory, setting the tone for the rest of the day.
From there, the girls carried their momentum into every game. They continued to play with passion and resilience, achieving the following results:
- Round 1: Sacred Heart Primary Sandringham – 9–7
- Round 2: Queen of Peace Primary School – 11–9
- Round 3: Hamilton Primary School – 18–2
- Round 4: Loreto Toorak – 11–10
- Round 5: BYE
- Round 6: Good Shepherd Lutheran Primary School Yellow – 17–5
Round 7: Ballarat Clarendon College – 17–4
Finishing on top of their pool, they progressed to the semi-final against Melbourne Grammar School. With composure and confidence, the girls surged to a 6–1 lead at half-time and maintained control to win 11–6, booking their place in the grand final.
The final match brought them face-to-face once again with Sacred Heart Primary Sandringham, their opening-round opponents. The atmosphere was electric as the girls warmed up for the decisive contest. With the memory of their earlier win providing belief, St Martin’s entered the match ready for the challenge. The first half was fiercely contested, with St Martin’s edging ahead 6–5 at the break. In the final seven minutes, the intensity dialled to the max! Every pass, intercept and shot counted, and the team held their nerve to claim a memorable 12–9 victory.
The triumph was not only about skill, but also about teamwork, persistence and courage. Every player contributed to the success, and no one left the court without giving everything. The girls finished the day as Netball Victoria Primary Champions, a remarkable achievement that reflected their hard work and commitment. They represented their school with pride and left an enduring example of what can be achieved through unity, belief and determination. With over 500 schools entered across all competitions, this was truly an extraordinary achievement!
I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of all of the girls who participated throughout the day, contributing to the overall success of the team. Everyone played such an important role and demonstrated great flexibility when being put into a position they might not normally play. Well done girls, you should be all so proud of your efforts!
