Principal's News

Dear Parents,

As we prepare for our Performance next week, a Dress Rehearsal will be held on Monday.

The students are to come to school dressed in their base costumes (ie jeans, pants, leggings, tshirts etc). Please also send a jacket / top along as it may be cold and they might need it.

We do have Assembly first at 8.50am, so the rehearsal will begin in the GECCO after that.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NETBALL CHAMPIONS!

Emilia C, Clara C, Poppy De P, Eva Di G, Annalise D, Poppy H, Amelia J, Mia K, Quinn S and Zoe S became State Champions in Netball on Tuesday!

The full Report of the games and scores is included in the Sports News section, but WHAT AN EFFORT to get to the Grand Final and then to win it, convincingly, 12-9 against Sacred Heart School Sandringham.

Not only have the girls achieved this State Level victory, but they will play in the SSV Finals on Wednesday next week, so it could be a double win!

Special thanks to Sean Martin, who has coached the team throughout the year, assisted by Marita Anderson and Fiona Henderson. Sean can obviously keep the nerves at bay too, due to his own sporting achievements.  

2025 MACSSIS SURVEY

Thank you to those families who have already completed the 2025 MACSSIS Survey. This data is important for our Annual Action Plan each year. Please send through a screenshot to show your completed survey to go into the draw to win one of four $50 Rebel vouchers! Further information can be found in this newsletter. The Survey closes on Friday 19 September. 

TOYS AT SCHOOL

Following some recent issues at school, we ask that expensive and valuable items, including La BuBu dolls, are NOT brought to school. It can be almost impossible for the staff to resolve issues which occur if an item is lost or taken, let alone the distress of losing an item. If your child brings toys to school, he/she does so at their own risk, as we strongly discourage this occurring. 

PREP 2026 - LIBRARY VISIT

Most of our Prep 2026 students came in for a visit last Wednesday, and left wearing a caterpillar headband after spending time in the Library and listening to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Special thanks to a small group of Year Five students who assisted with the Preps, as they will be the future Buddies of these students. 

The next time we might see them is the Family Fun Day in October, followed by the Orientation sessions. 

YEAR FOUR CAMP - FIRST WEEK BACK

Next term, in the first week back, the Year Four students are off to the City on their overnight Camp. We know they will love visiting the MCG, ACMI and the Chinese Museum, as well as staying overnight with their friends. On Thursday following the Camp, the Year Four students have the day off to recover, as the teachers need to have their Time in Lieu too. We wish them all a fantastic time!   

SEXUALITY EDUCATION - YEARS 5 AND 6

The program for Year 5 and 6 students has started and has one further session after the holidays. It was fabulous to see so many families at the Forum on Wednesday night to share these important conversations, led by Kate Wilde.

R U OK? Day

Yesterday was R U OK? Day, and it is a great reminder to check in with those around us, who may appear to be okay, but perhaps need more support. 

It isn't just one question which needs to be asked, but also a time to be open and listen to others, and to follow up and check in again. 

We all need this from time to time, and need to remember to give and receive this support.

FATHER'S DAY STALL

Thank you to Michelle Don Paul and all the helpers last week, for providing such a great variety of items for the Father's Day Stall. We hope all our Dads had a great Father's Day!

THE GREAT BOOK SWAP

A big thank you to families for donating books to The Great Book Swap which was held during book week.  As a school we were able to raise $642.90 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.  Such a great achievement to be able to donate this money to a fantastic cause.

FOOTY DAY

Friday 12 September will be our Footy Day this year, as the last day of school is the day after our Performance and everyone will be a little tired! It is great to see the students wearing their favourite footy team colours! 

PARKING AND SAFETY REMINDERS 

Could I please remind you all of the importance of showing care and patience when around the school at the beginning and end of each day. We have become aware of a few incidents recently where there have been unsafe practices. Jennie, our crossing supervisor, has an important role in keeping us all safe so please remember to use the crossing, modeling safe practice for our children, and be aware of her when driving in Silk Street. As the weather improves there may be more opportunities to walk to school which hopefully will lessen the congestion.

LEARNING CONVERSATIONS

Thank you for attending the Learning Conversations on Monday. Education is most effective when parents, the student and teacher/s work together, sharing strengths and next steps in learning. There is a term ahead for really focusing on the goals shared and working hard to continue the growth already occurring. Thank you to the teachers for their preparation for these, to ensure clear and accurate communication.  

CLASS MASSES

Please note that the days and dates for Class Masses have been included in the Diary Dates. Please check your child’s class as some of these may have changed. Teachers will send you an alert approximately three weeks prior to the Mass so you can change work if you would like to attend.

SCHOOL CALENDAR AND PUPIL FREE DAYS

Our Pupil Free Days (School Closure Dates) for the rest of the year are:

Monday 3 November and Monday 1 December

BAPTISM

If your child has not yet been baptised, please consider whether you would like to celebrate this sacrament prior to them reaching the sacramental years.

Some new Saints...

The Catholic Church has recently canonized Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, with Pope Leo XIV leading the ceremony on September 7, 2025. 

Saint Carlo, a 21st-century tech enthusiast and the first millennial saint, is known as "God's influencer" for using his computer skills to spread the faith online. Saint Pier Giorgio, a 20th-century Italian mountaineer and philanthropist, died young but is celebrated for his unwavering faith and vibrant life. These two young men are seen as relatable role models for modern Catholics, inspiring them to live fully for God and use their talents for good.
