MEDIA, DRAMA & ARTS EXCURSION

Media Studies Year 8 & 9:

This term in Media, our Year 8 students have been exploring the art of photography. They have been learning to use key photographic techniques; rule of thirds, symmetry, leading lines and framing. Students have enjoyed some experimentation by taking photos in our school environment and using photoshop.

Year 9 students have been developing their filmmaking skills, working through the stages of pre-production, production, and post-production. They have planned storyboards and begun experimenting using equipment.

Both year levels have shown great enthusiasm and creativity as their build confidence in visual storytelling and technical media skills.

Drama Year 8 & 9:

In Year 8 Drama, students have been exploring the exciting world of mask performance, learning how to use physical expression, gesture, and body language to tell powerful stories without spoken words. Through a variety of creative activities and ensemble tasks, they have developed confidence, characterisation skills, and an understanding of theatrical traditions that use Neutral mask and Basel mask.

In Year 9 Drama students have been working collaboratively on play-building, using a range of dramatic structures and devising techniques to create original performances based on the theme of Heroes. They have been developing story ideas, refining characters, and experimenting with staging and performance styles, working as creative teams to bring their concepts to life.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, collaboration, and enthusiasm shown by all students this term.

Arts Excursion to the Arts Centre:

On Tuesday 28th October a group of year 7-9 students attended the Arts Centre. Throughout the day, they were involved in either a Music workshop or Drama workshop. Students explored storytelling through movement, voice, rhythm and character, gaining hands-on experience and insight into live performance. Music students enjoyed an inspiring music workshop exploring rhythm, composition, and creative expression using computers and tech equipment and creating and developing their own music.

We are proud of their enthusiasm and engagement and look forward to bringing these new ideas back into the classroom.
