During Term 3, students in Years 7-9 have developed and completed a text response essay on a film. Year 7 students watched Edward Scissorhands, Year 8 students watched She’s the Man and Year 9 students watched The Sapphires. After watching and completing the activities for unpacking the film, students demonstrated their understanding and analysis by completing a text response essay observing the themes, plot and analytical components.

In Term 4, all students in Years 7-9 will be developing and preparing an oral presentation based on an overarching topic based on reporting requirements on Speaking and Listening. Year 7 students will need to deliver a speech on Fairness. Year 8 students will deliver a speech on Sports and Year 9 students will deliver a speech on Refugees. All students will have a few minutes to convince their class on their topic and their teacher will mark them on the rubric. In addition to this and to report on reading levels, Year 7 and 8 students have completed a Reading assessment. To complement this, all students have also completed PAT test (an online reading test).

The English team will mark all students on their Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening this term. The teachers will use the students’ performance on the assessments discussed in order to be informed about their appropriate levels.

Year 9 students will also need to complete an English exam in Week 6. The content for this exam will include the work from Term 3 and Term 4. Please encourage your child/ren to study for this by studying the slides and their workbooks from both terms. We are excited to observe the successes for all these Year 9 students completing their milestone which is completing their second exam at Mickleham Secondary College.

Thank you from the English Team.
