5-8 Community News

We had exciting news this week with Zoe Alberecht giving birth to little Billi. We wish Zoe all the best and we know she will be an amazing mother.
Next term we welcome back Emily DiBella to the Year 7 space. Em has been on maternity leave since the beginning of the year and we can’t wait to have her back in the learning space.
In the absence of both Zoe and Emily, Michael Archer has helped out and has been a huge help to the teaching team. He has gone above and beyond and the Years 5 to 8 team are extremely grateful.
Year 8 Market Day
Another reminder that our Market day is next Wednesday, 17th September. Our Year 8s have overseen this event for ten years now, giving them an opportunity to understand how a small business would run. After choosing a product to make, they then need to market it, work out their niche market, put together a profit and loss statement and ultimately sell the product to make a profit. Items for sale include bath bombs, candles, slime, dog tags, toffee, bracelets, keychains and much more. Prices range from 50c to $7.00.
Student Leadership 2026
Our Year 7s have now put forward their applications to become a Year 8 leader in 2026. Mr Carver and Mr Barrett gave the students an overview of the aspects of being a leader and how being at St Augustines presents the notion that we are servant leaders who serve our whole community. From there, students applied for either the Community Leader, House Leader or Catholic Social Teaching Leader. Next Wednesday in Period 1, our perspective student leaders will present their speeches to the 5 to 8 Community and persuade them as to why they would be the best candidates to undertake the student leader roles.
TA Topic
We have examined organisation and being on time for the last two weeks. We have looked at our mornings and the ways in which we get to school on time and what our routines look like. We also explored further how much time we actually waste by being late and the impact it has on our learning. Students were surprised to know that if you were five minutes late every morning to school, it would be nearly a week of classes missed over the school year.
Partnerships local excursions
Partnerships for the Future students were lucky enough to visit GoTafe in Shepparton last week. They received a full tour and were allowed to explore all aspects of each campus. Some of the favourite areas for the students were Hair and Beauty, Engineering, Nursing and Electrical.
