Yr 12 VM Community Projects
As part of my Year 12 VM Community Project, I organised a boxing session for the Year 7 students to promote fitness, self-defence, and healthy habits from a young age.
The session was run by a local trainer, giving her the chance to showcase her business while supporting our school community.
The students had a great time they were enthusiastic and engaged, enjoying the opportunity to try something new while building confidence, focus, and teamwork skills.
Feedback showed the session was a big success, and it was rewarding to see both the trainer and students benefit.

School Based Apprenticeships
Choosing a school-based apprenticeship was a wise choice for me because I did not want to drop out of school. The company I do my work placement with also encouraged me to stay in school and continue with my studies as their management believe in the value of a good education.
The VCE VM program at Nazareth College allows me to study Motor Mechanics through RTO Skill Invest and stay in high school to complete other academic subjects and obtain a Year 12 accreditation. I enjoy my workplace a great deal. The people I work with are supportive and awesome. The company specialises in American performance cars and I love these vehicles and their engines.
As part of the VCE VM program, I attend school three days a week, two days of work placement and TAFE once every two months. I enjoy this schedule because it allows me the flexibility to pursue my passion for cars and get an education at the same time. It’s a win-win without the pressure of overly theoretical schoolwork that a straight VCE expects.
During the school holidays I also get the opportunity to continue at my work placement. Sometimes it’s just the one week but sometimes it’s for two. The time I spend on site goes towards the completion of my apprenticeship while I’m still at school.
Combining work and school has been wonderful because it has prepared me for my future. It has helped me to know what I want to do in my life. I’m very thankful to Dontex Performance and the VM program for taking me on board.
