Grade One

General:
Grade 1 students have been busy building and showing their friendship skills. Using the Friend-o-meter, they are learning to recognise the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendships. This has led to friendship circles growing, students being more willing to try new games and practicing active listening with their peers. Alongside this, we have enjoyed several exciting events, including our Book Week Showcase, Father’s Day Breakfast and Grandparents Afternoon. The Grade 1 teachers wish all families a wonderful holiday and a well-deserved two week break.
Mathematics:
This term, students have explored a range of open-ended mathematical tasks that encouraged them to combine multiple skills in new ways. They have extended their knowledge and understanding in Place Value, Data, Location and Fractions.
English:
In English, students proudly published their own Possum Magic texts, which were shared as part of our Book Week Showcase and costumes. Book Week began with a special incursion from Perform Education, where students celebrated and connected with stories in exciting ways. Over the past few weeks we have focused on famous Australian authors and their books. Students practiced making connections to texts and even stepping into the role of an author by rewriting stories themselves.
Integrated Studies & RRRR/Cyber Safety:
This term in Integrated Studies, students investigated sustainability and created posters to encourage others to care for the environment. In RRRR, they explored strategies for managing stress and learned helpful coping techniques for tricky situations. Cyber Safety has also been a focus, with students learning how to stay safe online and make positive choices when using technology.
