Student Achievements
We congratulate Lucy M on her continued success in swimming. At the Surf Life Saving Australia 2025 Australian Pool Rescue Championships, Lucy won three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal, and set two South Australian records, one individually and one as part of a relay team.
At the South Australian Swimming Short Course State Championships, Lucy secured two gold and four silver individual medals, as well as two gold and one bronze in the relay events. What amazing achievements - well done, Lucy!
Congratulations to Charlotte B, Rudi F, Ruby L, and Grace M on their recent football Grand Final wins! The girls all play for Payneham Norwood Union Football Club and were thrilled to take out the U14 and U16 Grand Finals. Both teams faced challenges throughout the season, often playing without a full side due to injuries but fought hard to the very end. A huge congratulations to these talented athletes on their resilience, determination, and outstanding achievement.

Netball
Our teams have reached the business end of the season, with the Year 6 Blue, Year 6 White and Year 5 Red teams all progressing to finals. The Blue and Red teams had successful semi finals over the weekend and have progressed to grand finals on Saturday September 21. Our White team went down 11-15 against St Ignatius in a great game last Saturday so face a preliminary final against Marryatville this weekend.
Meanwhile, an excited group of Year 2 netballers took to the court on Monday afternoon for their first ever training. There was plenty of enthusiasm and energy plus some impressive skills on display. Well done to Harriet C who shot our first goal! The teams will have one more training this term before being unleashed on the Friday night competition in Term 4.
Slam Dunkers
Well done to our Year 3/4 basketball team who finished their season with a hard-fought 15-6 win at Seymour. The team has had a great first season of basketball, developing their skills every week and earning plenty of wins along the way.
Athletics
It has been great to see a large group of Year 3-6 students out at our athletics trainings on Thursday afternoons. Already we are seeing some impressive long jump and high jump results.
Touch Football Carnivals
Well done to all the Loreto students and coaches who participated in the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 touch football carnivals last week!
We took a record number of teams away to the carnival this year. It is fantastic to see so many students taking pride in representing the school. It was also great to see some students who aren’t yet playing ball sports for Loreto join in. We hope that you enjoyed the carnival and would love to see you play some team sports for Loreto in the future!
Thank you to all the staff, coaches and parents who helped look after our teams.
All of our Year 5/6 teams enjoyed some success over their six games:
- Loreto 1 (Year 5): 3 wins, 1 draw, 2 losses
- Loreto 2 (Year 5): 6 wins
- Loreto 3 (Year 5): 6 wins
- Loreto 4 (Year 6): 4 wins, 2 draws
- Loreto 5 (Year 6): 4 wins, 2 losses
- Loreto 6 (Year 6): 6 wins
- Loreto Championship (Year 6): 1 win, 3 draws, 2 losses
Our Year 3/4 teams also received some lovely feedback from one of the SACPSSA officials who was very impressed the Loreto teams’ conduct and attitude. It is really nice to hear this sort of feedback and thank you to our coaches for reinforcing the importance of the following to our players:
- Respect for umpiring decisions
- Teamwork
- Encouraging teammates
- Praising opponents for good efforts and performances
- Shaking hands with opposition after matches
- Thanking the umpires after matches
If your daughter enjoyed the carnival and would like to play Touch Football for the school in Term 4, Loreto is involved in a Tuesday afternoon competition against Pembroke and St Peters Girls Schools. Please click here to register.
We had an interested spectator on Wednesday, with Eva’s dog Rosie there to support the teams and meet all the players. The excitement got too much for Rosie at one stage. She broke free of her lead and ran amok, searching for food in all the Loreto school bags. She searched almost every bag but much to her disappointment, all she could find was gummy worms. Hmmm…
One of our Year 6 teams concocted a team song and dance routine that they unveiled before the first match. After they won their first game, they decided that it must be a good luck omen and needed to be performed before every match. They insisted on doing this rather lengthy pre-game routine all day, belting out several verses at full volume even with the coaches urging them “Hurry up, the game is starting.” They finished with six wins out of six… so who can argue? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
